Watching Movies During Lessons?

Hello to all, my babbling brood!

This is the first entry and the topic for the fortnight is......

Watching movies during English lessons and completing English class/homework based on them is fun! Do you agree? Or do you disagree?

Do write your thoughts in proper English (because I will be reading them and probably respond) and address them to your classmates. You are also allowed to respond to your classmates' comments in a civilised and polite manner. That means no name calling or hard feelings to one another.

We all must agree to disagree.

As all of you have experienced, Miss Ang never takes a simple 'yes' or 'no' when she asks a question. Likewise on this class blog, I expect you to support your arguments. Be it a four-liner paragraph or a four-paged essay, I want your response.

Lastly, if your parents might ask you why is your (pretty) English teacher (ahem) requiring you to blog, please show them this post: -

Blogging is current the technology rage in Singapore (and worldwide) and it is essential for students to be IT-savvy in their work and research in order to be on par or ahead with our fast-paced society. Through class blogging, students are tasked to think coherently and analyse introduced topics before acquiring confidence (and supporting arguments/evidence) to share comments with the class. At the same time, they are given an opportunity to practise and hone their writing skills and grammar as their comments are moderated by the English teacher. Also, discussion of the posted topics in and outside the classroom encourages class cohesion through this form of online interaction.

I agree, as the movies shown during English classes will help us to have a better understanding of the lessons and the language. In addition, it will spark our interest in the English language (and will keep us awake! Haha!).

I agree.Watching movie can improve our listen skill and it makes the lesson more interesting and exciting. And I think the teacher can let us say our own opinion in homeworks.

Of course agree! But depends on what kind of movie eg.? i don't know >.< anyway the movie must keep us awake througout when watching provided it's boring or watch before.

hi Ms. Ang

hmm...I'm quite agree. As long as the movie interests me...hahahaha

For your information, I like action movies. It will make us attracted to the movies and I like the scenes of car pursuiting each other and people shooting each other with heavy loaded guns! I think most of my of the boys will like it too! I don't know for the girls anyway....

I can watch other movies actually...

Anyhow, I hope you will offer more of action movies in our lessons!

To ARCHIE:

What's "sup peeps"? I also didn't quite understand by what you mean - "in my opinion can make a big influence at certain things."

Please explain (and leave out the abbreviation [shortform]).

To KEVIN: For starters, we'll start with only 20min of a musical ok? We'll have a variety of shows later on if we succeed in the first one (ie. if you're all well-behaved).

To TINA: Well, I can't satisfy everyone's taste in movies, so we'll see how a musical goes, ok?

archievous said...

hehe.sorri miss ang, what i meant was to say hi everyone(sup peeps).i initially thought the cyber lingo way of it doesnt make sense too:D

Some of us might treat the lesson as a slacking period and some inappropriate scenes might be applied in our life. But i do believe tht movies is a creative way of teaching english:D

it would be boring if we always study and not doing somthing new.

i suggest that we watch a movie that make us realise how important our studies are and how we should treasure our friendship and so on....

I think that watching movie while having english is excellent. Because this keeps us awake when we wants to sleep ,or when we feels bored. But of course the movie must also be interesting and meaningful,or it will be no use.Watching movie during english lesson also encourage us to watch more english shows and improve our english while listening the actors speak good english. "_"

disagree cause it the movie is too BORING everyone might fall alsleep instead of learning !!!

kaiwen said...

I agree, because it will be more interesting in the lesson. It also improves our listening, expically for foreign students.Movie can give us more impression. But i think we cannot just watch it,we must learn something from it,otherwise it's useless

agree...it's because if we learn like a normal class, it surely would be boring(for some lesson)...but if we watch a show and do a class work about the movie surely it would be fun because we get to speak up in class and if somebody fail the assignment surely you can tell that the person is not paying attention in class...and surely watching movie would keep us all awake...

that's all...bubbbye...lenny...

I agree. It makes the lessons very fun, interesting and enjoyable.

As student will be keen to learn in english not like other subject wanting to sleep during the 45 mintues.

Assuring you that 90% of the students will pass their english with at least B3.

I agree. English lessons are quite boring for me. So i prefer to watch movies than to do some other activities. In fact, all the students wouldn't be sleeping during English lesson.
